Memorial Weekend, 2004

Thank you all who have served or are serving the defense of our country. The opening of the World War II memorial this weekend is special.

Results are Coming In

Only 2, so far, but if they hold up, they have already paid big dividends.

You will see that only 5 markers match out of the 43 markers in a comparison of individuals from the TE spelling and the DE spelling.

For all intents and purposes, this would make the two spellings un-related, in that there is no Common Ancestor between the two spellings.

In addition, this great difference between the two spellings allows for less markers to be tested in order to place individuals with either one of these lines. It is likely that the cheaper $155 dollar test through Relative Genetics would confirm or place an individual definitely with either the broad group of Plymouth MA SturTEvants or the Ridgefield/Danbury CT SturDEvants.

We are expecting a result from the TI spelling of England within a week or two. We still need a volunteer from the DI spelling of the Southern U.S., descendants of John of Virginia. I expect them to match closely with both the TI spelling and one of the the northern spellings. I do not expect each spelling to be as un-related as these first two results show.

But hey, I have already been proved wrong,

if these first two results hold up.

Call for participants and/or contributions.

As noted, the testing is already paying off. But we need more participants. Only having one person from each spelling introduces the however slim possibility of having a non-paternal event affect the outcome.
E.G.  An unknown adoption, mis-placement of children with the proper spouse, or the issue of a hidden affair.
Matching two from each spelling eliminates this element of uncertainty.

So please, Pay it Forward if you can.

Consider joining the project, either through purchasing a test or contributing to Wayne Sturdevant's sponsorship pool. Families can pool their resources, everybody pitch in $25 or $50 bucks to get one of them tested, and add to the community's pool of information.

Genealogy is one place where "Paying it Forward" really works. Small acts, big rewards - when people are able to find their heritage and embrace it.

Explore the information that is available on or through the links here. Any of the surname tests available from the 3 companies will work. Go with the company you feel best about and the test that will best serve your/community needs.

Remember that the more markers tested, the more precision. The $99  12 - marker test will only place an individual in the broadest category. It may match 2 or 3 spellings. The $155  26 - marker test should put the individual into 1 of the lines. The 37  - marker, and 43  - marker tests should place the individual with a particular line with-in that 1 line. If, you have another 37/43 marker test within in that line to match with.

Please remember, DNA testing is a Comparison. The more we have to compare with, the more we can match.

Remember also, we are testing males that carry one of the spellings of the surname.

I apologize for the break in the action. We are still awaiting the first test results back from the lab and I have taken advantage of some time to finally dive into the installation and learning of XP pro. So far it has gone swimmingly.

This is my first post from the new platform.

I really have no idea of what, how many, and whose results we are going to get back. Should be interesting, heh?

My test has been received by DNA Heritage and I have been invoiced and payment received. As of the 28th April.

I know of one other test at the lab, and confirmed that our Sturtivant connection in England has also ordered a test. So we will have at least one test from each of the Sturtevant, Sturdevant, and Sturtivant lines. It is a good start.

I have had problems with email, my ISP was listed as a spammer, so incoming messages have been bounced, and outgoing delayed, or just not delivered. If you have tried to contact me in the last week, please re-send if you have not heard from me.

DNA Heritage has still not got their Projects going, so have made available more of the $199, 43 marker tests. There is plenty of time to take advantage.
