One week left to take advantage of the sales on DNA Testing
See previous post. One week left to take advantage of offers by DNA Heritage, and Ancestry.com/dna. With DNA Heritage, we have until the end of September to pay if ordered by end of this month.
To help you along, I finally got the Company Comparison chart done. Use it to compare the various offerings from DNA Heritage, Ancestry, as well as Family Tree DNA, EthnoAncestry and Sorenson. It is a pdf document that shows you graphically what markers each service tests, compares each to DNA Heritage, provides links, things to know, and relevancy to our project.
As I show, DNA Heritage’s 43, Ancestry’s 46, and Sorenson’s free service are virtually identical as far as locations tested. As we already have 20 results in the bank, I still recommend using one of these services to determine relatedness with in our Project. Each has it advantages, but results from those can be directly compared with what we have to determine family lines within our surname variations. Of course, Family Tree DNA’s 67 markers and EthnoAncestry’s 45 offer additonal marker locations for considerably higher prices. These tests could be used to determine a closer relatedness. For instance, without documentation, we have established that A4 is probably a descendant of Josiah, because of its match with A3. If BOTH A3, and A4 added markers, the more markers matched the greater the likelyhood of that being true. If a mismatch appears with more markers, then the greater the chance of it being false, while still being close enough to be through another of Samuel grandsons. (See the Results PDF)
But I still believe DNA Heritage/Ancestry/Sorenson to being the greatest value for relatedness within this project, at this time. As I have discussed before, that may not be the case with the search for origins. But anyway take a look at the comparisons. As always, comments, questions, suggestions, complaints welcomed.
