Welcome to the St*r****nt Genetic Project on Rootsweb!
The St*r****nt Genetic Project was started from conversations in the SturDEvant Group on Yahoo!. This group carries the DE spelling but is made up of over 125 members researching ancestors carrying the TE, DI, and TI spellings of the name.
Naturally, there was always the question;
how are we related?
Stories abound on the internet.
My favorite is the 3 brothers, sons of a goldsmith, kidnapped on the streets of London, sold for passage to mid 17th century America. Samuel SturTEvant to Massachussets, William SturDEvant to Connecticut, John SturDIvant to Virginia.
Then Ray and Geoff Sturtivant of England, put up their excellent web site.
THE STURTIVANT/STURTEVANT GENEALOGY
We believed all the spellings world-wide were related and came from one surviving branch of the name, originating in Nottinghamshire, and Yorkshire, late 13th century.
Then Wayne Sturdevant began the project of updating Robert Hunter Sturtevant's book, The Descendent's of Samuel Sturtevant. This project would build on Robert's work using new information, as well as including All of the various spellings of the surname.
Then I shot my mouth off about the possibilities of DNA Testing, and ended up starting a Project. My name is John S. Sturdevant, and along with Wayne and Paul Klebaur as Co-Administrators, am taking this project outside of the Yahoo Group world-wide.
Our intention is to eventually define the haplotype of each of the major and minor spellings of the name, and determine their origin.
This webpage on Rootsweb is the first step in linking our surnames world-wide through DNA Testing and good old fashioned networking and research.
