Obituary of LUCINA JENKINS (STURDEVANT)STURDIVANT. Published in the Watseka Blade, July 14, 1898.(Iroquois County, IL) DEATH OF MRS. STURDIVANT Lucina Jenkins was born in Ontario county, N.Y., on August 31, 1813, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Almira Long, at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 1898. Aged 84 years, 10 months and 11 days. On the 8th of Sept. 1831, she was united in marriage to Johnathan Strurdivant, who departed this life in the autum of 1873. They removed from Indiana to this county in the year 1837, until death removed them to their better home. Mrs. Sturdivant was the beloved mother of eleven chicldren, three of whom, James C., of Barton county, Missouri, Joseph I, of Watseka and Mrs. Almira Long of Iroquois tp., Ill., remain to cherish her memory with ardent affection. For more than 73 years Sister Sturdivant has been a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. In her intense desire for the spiritual prosperity of the church, and fervently prayed that its ministry might be endued with divine power to preach the word of life. In the early pioneer days her home was always open to welcome the faithful itinerant in his mission of love for the Master. Her father was a Methodist minister and was actively engaged in the service of the church for more than fifty years. Mrs. Sturdivant recognized but one book by which to guide her spititual thoughts and develop her Christian character and that was the, Holy Bible, which she esteemed far above all earthly riches. At this great spiritual fountain of divine truth, she found her greatest consolation, and learned by personal experience that "God's ways are ways of blessed Jesus and all his paths are peace." A few days before her triumphant departure, when asked by her pastor if she had a bright outlook for the future she replied in the language of the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, Oh my soul and forget not all his benefits. Who forgivith all thine iniquities. Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies." In the triumphs of this faith she sweetly fell asleep in Christ.
