sturdstonecutgif.gif (136198 bytes)This is the Sturdevant family headstone, located in Center Cemetery, the town of Bridgewater, Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Center Cemetery is the hub for our line of Sturdevants. This stone stands above the graves of Eli Sturdevant, his wife Isabella Tappen, their Infant daughter Isabella Tappen Sturdevant, and another daughter Angelinea Augusta Sturdevant .

Nearby are the headstones for Eli's parents John Sanford Sturdevant and Currence Hatch Sturdevant. In addition there is another  large monument marking the resting place of  Eli's first son George Eli Sturdevant, his wife Laura Dunning Beers, and their two daughters Isabella Tappen Sturdevant and Gertrude Emily Sturdevant.

Surrounding the cemetery itself is a wrought iron and granite fence designed, and its construction supervised,  by Eli Sturdevant. His home was across the street, and he served as superintendent of the Bridgewater Cemetery Association till the time of his death. The home of his parents was nearby as well.

Feel free to read more about the 18th and 19th century Bridgewater Sturdevants, their 17th century ancestors, and their 20th century descendents, on the following pages. You may peruse our family tree, search our database, investigate our links and sources, and we hope you will comment and sign our guest book.
